Activities Active Older Adults

The Oshkosh Community YMCA prides itself on helping people of all ages and capabilities achieve better health. Activities specifically geared to the active, older adult are designed to relieve arthritis, increase mobility, and promote health awareness. Any person 55 years of age or older can register for an Active Older Adult Activity.

There will be flyers and posting of Active Older Adult special events at the Service Desk and on the Acitve Older Adult bulletin board at the Downtown YMCA.

Active Older Adults Program

Active Older Adult Programs are free to members. Activity Members can participate for a daily fee of $3 per day before noon Monday through Friday. An 18-visit punch card can also be purchased for $54. Water Excercise, Walk fo Fitness, Stretch, Flex & Balance, and SilverSneakers are included in the program.

Pickleball

A fun game that is played on a badminton court with a low net, Pickleball, easy for beginners, is becoming one of the fastest growing sports for seniors. All equipment is provided. Tuesdays & Thursdays 8:30-10:30am.

Senior Water Fitness

This class is designed to be a solid aerobic workout without stress to your joints. Classes are held 10:10-10:55am Mon, Wed & Fri at the Downtown YMCA.

Senisational Seniors Special Events

Special events created for members and guests ages 55+. Free for Y Members and a small fee for guests. For more information contact Kari at (920) 236-3380.

SilverSneakers Cardio Circuit

Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength-work (with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball) is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relations exercises. Wed 10:45-11:30am at the Downtown or Wed 9-9:45am at the 20th Ave.

SilverSneakers Muscular Strength/Range of Movement

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Meets 10:15-11:15am Tue and Thur at the Downtown or 9-9:45am Mon and Fri at the 20th Ave.

Stretch, Flex & Balance

Seniors will learn how to stretch muscles from head to toe. Exercises that help improve balance along with some yoga moves are also a part of this class. Class runs from 10-10:30 am Mondays and Wednesdays in the Harwell Room @ DTC.

Walk For Fitness

Anyone over 55 years of age can use our walking tracks free of charge. Downtown: 7-9 am Monday through Friday. 20th Ave: 5-8 am Monday through Friday.

West Side & Downtown SilverSneakers

The SilverSneakers Fitness program is the nation's leading fitness program designed exclusively for older adults. If you are a member of Humana Gold Classic or Gold PPO, you can enroll in the SilverSneakers Fitness Program at no charge beyond your monthly premium. Once you are enrolled in the program, you are eligible to participate in all the activities the YMCA has to offer. Special Muscular Strength and Range of Movement fitness classes offered. YogaStretch & Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. Chair Yoga: Mondays 10:45-11:30am and Yoga Stretch Fridays 9:30-10:15am.
